The City Tax Office is responsible for the collection of five tax bills:

  • Two separate real estate bills
  • one Personal Per Capita (per head) bill
  • Local Services tax (LST)
  • the School Occupation and Per Capita Tax

The City/County bills their real estate tax annually in March with a discount due date of April 30th (running on a current calendar year of January 1st to December 31st).

The City/County bills their personal per capita bill annually.

The school bills their real estate tax annually in July with a discount due date of August 31st (running on a fiscal year of July 1st of the current year to June 30th of the following year.)

The school bills its Occupation and Per Capita tax annually in July with a discount due date of August 31st.

The Local Services tax is billed annually in January to any business/self-employed individuals doing business within the City limits. The total tax bill is $52.00 for all employees or self-employed individuals working or doing business in the City. $47.00 is allotted for the City of St. Marys and $5.00 is allotted for the School District.  If less than $12,000 is earned you are exempt from paying the $47.00. However, if more than $1,000 is earned you are required to pay the $5.00 school portion. It is the employer's responsibility to deduct the LST tax from their employees. With payment, it is REQUIRED that a complete list of names, address and social security numbers be included. This tax is due one month after the end of the quarter in which the income limits are met.

The City's Earned Income Tax (EIT) is collected by Berkheimer Tax Service, 1-800-383-4870.
